We have a strong social media and marketing in place and would definitely communicate a lot about it.

DAKTARI welcomes, per year, ± 350 children for a week of environmental education and ± 80 volunteers who are teaching the children and taking care of the animals. We have 15 staff who also live permanently on site. We have a lot of people to feed every day to carry on our impact in the community for the benefit of the environment and wildlife. Our kitchen is very old and needs to be extended to be more practical and hygienic. We do not have electricity on the farm and all our equipments run on solar powder and a generator when necessary.

We have a fair budget situation but as any NPO it is always a stressful to insure sufficient fund forever. The organisation does not own the land and rent it.
We have not spent recently any budget in this kitchen renovation, therefore the extension of it needs to be fully funded. DAKTARI has a volunteer program and a funding strategy which bring regular income. If this project would be accepted, DAKTARI would need to make a campaign to raise fund or assess the income situation at the time of the agreement for the building material if JI can not support all the costs.
Describe the land situation. Has land been procured? Has a site been selected? Was land donated from the local government? Is a deed in-hand?
The organisation is located on a game farm of 650 hectares (not far from Kruger Park). There is no electricity on the farm. DAKTARI is renting the land from a Horse Back Safari Lodge (http://www.waitalittle.co.za) who highly support the project as one of the owner is a board member and are charge a minimum rent for the space we occupy. The rent is renewable every five years and we have been running for 12 years.

The Kitchen room is at the moment 20 m2 and attached to a recreational room area of 40 m2. There is a small room above the kitchen where volunteer/staff sleep.
We would like to extend the kitchen room to 40 m2 as there is space around this building. The roof is thatched, topped with Harvey tiles. There is water supply and solar power already, which can be extended to the needs. The kitchen needs new tiling for the floor and new cupboards, sinks and work

We are remote and 65 kms from the nearest town, which makes supply of building material expensive.
Explain the desired timeline from the project. When do you hope to start and finish construction? Will construction occur in phases?
The Kitchen extension needs to be done in one phase. We hope to get it done preferable before the end of the year but do not have deadline. Christmas holiday period would be the best time for us as we have less people in camp.
