The story
A village organized around belonging and agency.
Akhin Village is a proposal for young Nigerians ages 12 to 23 who need more than temporary shelter. The master plan brings housing together with literacy programs, vocational workshops, arts spaces, recreation, agriculture, and accessible support for young people with and without disabilities. That mix turns the project from an institution into a working village: learning, earning, growing food, making things, and building relationships are intended to happen side by side. Clean-water and renewable-energy systems are part of the campus vision, supporting greater self-reliance while giving residents practical systems to understand and maintain.
The design is grounded in the Akinmorin community near Oyo Town and in the partner organization’s long-term work with marginalized youth. Journeyman International’s role is to translate that program into a coherent, inclusive place where safety does not come at the cost of choice or identity. Akhin Village remains a proposed campus; its promise lies in creating the physical framework for support, skill-building, and community, not in claiming outcomes that have not yet occurred.
