ASYV Community Center and Women's Co-op

Near Ntunga’s solar-energy development, the ASYV Community Center and Women’s Co-op was conceived as a place where new infrastructure could support local enterprise as well as power. The proposal gives a women-led cooperative dedicated space to organize, make, learn, and build economic relationships, while a flexible community room creates a setting for meetings and everyday gathering. Locating those uses together matters: training can connect directly to production, cooperative decisions can happen close to the work, and the building can remain useful beyond any single program.

The project’s archive is stronger in technical and site material than in a complete narrative book, so its documented status should remain a design proposal rather than a claimed completed facility. Journeyman International’s contribution was to turn a broad goal of women’s economic participation into a practical spatial framework tied to the surrounding development. The center is modest in scale but strategic in purpose—shared infrastructure designed to make local leadership, collaboration, and enterprise easier to sustain.
