ASYV Community Center and Women's Co-op

Near Ntunga’s solar-energy development, the ASYV Community Center and Women’s Co-op was conceived as a place where new infrastructure could support local enterprise as well as power. The proposal gives a women-led cooperative dedicated space to organize, make, learn, and build economic relationships, while a flexible community room creates a setting for meetings and everyday gathering. Locating those uses together matters: training can connect directly to production, cooperative decisions can happen close to the work, and the building can remain useful beyond any single program.

Journeyman International’s contribution was to turn a broad goal of women’s economic participation into a practical spatial framework tied to the surrounding development. The center is modest in scale but strategic in purpose—shared infrastructure designed to make local leadership, collaboration, and enterprise easier to sustain.
