The story
An early school grows from four rooms into a complete learning campus.
École Maternelle Graine d'Or serves preschool children in Rusororo, with particular attention to families of street vendors whose work and income can make early education difficult to access. The first four-classroom building is already taking shape. The broader concept plans twelve classrooms with a library, multipurpose room, kitchen, administration, play environments, and housing for teachers and staff, organized so the school can grow in phases as neighboring land and funding become available.
Lake Flato's concept role focuses on climate, orientation, circulation, outdoor learning, local materials, and a clear architectural language that Journeyman's Kigali team can carry into later design and construction. Site footage confirms active Phase 1 work, but the complete campus is not finished. The project's name means golden seed, and the architecture follows that idea without sentimentality: begin with a safe place for the first learners, then establish a framework capable of supporting more classrooms, more play, and stronger community use over time.
