A film school designed as a real creative campus.
Film School Africa works with young people from townships including Kayamandi and Strand, using film and media as tools for expression, technical skill, and employment. As the program grew, Kyle Rogers designed a new home within the Pneumatix performing-arts campus near Somerset West. Production and teaching spaces are organized to give students a fuller college-like experience: learning, making, review, collaboration, and campus life can happen in one place rather than through borrowed rooms. Research into Western Cape climate, Cape Dutch precedents, local materials, and the surrounding live-in arts community shaped the proposal.
The school is meant to support professional workflows without losing the informal exchange essential to creative education. Journeyman International connected FSA’s operational goals to a detailed design, cost, schedule, and construction strategy. The archive documents a proposal, not confirmed completion. Its architectural idea is to treat aspiring filmmakers as practitioners from the beginning, giving them a setting where stories can move from conversation to camera, editing, screening, and public voice.
