An 8.8-hectare campus planned for the whole life of a school.
As Kigali International Community School outgrew its existing site, 8. 8 hectares in Kinyinya created room to think beyond adding classrooms. The master plan organizes primary and secondary learning, administration, science, technology, fine arts, learning support, global leadership, athletics, and student life as a phased campus. Academic buildings form clear age-appropriate neighborhoods while shared centers and fields create points where the wider school meets.
Landscape, circulation, service access, and future growth are planned from the outset so expansion does not erode the open space and coherence that made the new land valuable. Journeyman International’s work translates KICS’s long-term educational mission into development priorities rather than assuming every facility arrives at once. The archive documents a preliminary brief and master-plan process, not a fully completed campus. Its contribution is strategic: give a growing school a framework in which each new building can strengthen the whole, support holistic development, and preserve flexibility for generations of changing educational practice.
