Hydropower, hospitality, and a community room planned together.
Near Lake Kivu and Nyungwe Forest, the Kilimbi proposal connects a new hydropower mini-grid to two forms of community infrastructure. An Empowering Villages center provides space for assemblies, training, recreation, and social programs; a guesthouse creates hospitality training and local work as tourism develops. Planning the uses together allows reliable electricity to support both daily public programs and an income-generating enterprise. The guesthouse is not meant to stand apart as an enclave: its economic purpose depends on local staffing, supply, and connection to the center.
Journeyman International helped shape the campus while the wider Kilimbi energy project pursued two river hydropower plants and village electrification. The archive documents proposals and funding material rather than verified completion. Its central idea is to treat power as an enabling system, not the final outcome. When energy, skills, gathering space, and visitor infrastructure arrive through one coordinated plan, more of the value created by an emerging destination can remain within the community.
