The story
An existing property becomes a headquarters for rural health work.
OnCall Africa has spent years supporting rural clinics, training health workers, and delivering mobile care across Zambia. After acquiring property in Livingstone, the organization needed to turn it into a central headquarters with more useful office and training space. Journeyman International’s project focuses on adaptive transformation rather than a new standalone clinic: rooms are reorganized for instruction, coordination, storage, administration, and the preparation of teams and materials before they travel. A reliable headquarters can strengthen many remote services at once by improving training, logistics, and institutional memory.
The design must remain cost-conscious and easy to maintain while giving visiting clinicians and local staff a functional place to work together. The archive contains pre-design material but does not verify that renovations were completed, so the project remains a proposal. Its architectural contribution is leverage—improve the base from which an experienced organization supports a much wider network of rural healthcare.
