A designathon for housing that can respond without forgetting context.

Resilient Emergency Architecture Research challenged students to develop housing concepts for places exposed to disaster and displacement. Speed matters after crisis, but the design scenario asks teams to hold it alongside climate, culture, dignity, environmental impact, logistics, and the ability to adapt after immediate relief. Participants researched deployment, modular systems, local assembly, material supply, and the transition from temporary shelter toward longer use. Journeyman International reviewed completed proposals as possible real-world solutions while professors could shape the schedule and deliverables around their courses.

This is research and a designathon, not a built relief program; selection did not guarantee construction. Its value lies in ethical rehearsal. Students confront how standardization can help delivery yet fail communities when it ignores household structure, place, or maintenance. The resulting prototypes equip designers to ask better questions before an emergency and to treat affected people as partners in adaptation rather than passive recipients of a universal shelter.
