A living-learning village grows leadership from the landscape.
SERES envisioned the Communiversity in El Rodeo as a campus where young leaders from Central America’s Northern Triangle could live, learn, and test ideas for a more just and sustainable future. At the foot of Guatemala’s volcanoes, the master plan organizes social, residential, and future phases around courtyards, preserving views and working with the site’s forest, fruit trees, slopes, and distinct microclimates. Water management, solar orientation, natural ventilation, and a restrained palette of bamboo, timber, and concrete make environmental performance part of everyday experience.
The campus supports workshops, collaboration, reflection, and exchange among local youth, practitioners, and supporters without separating education from community life. Journeyman International’s presentation develops the site strategy, building typologies, and passive design approach, but the reviewed material does not confirm construction. The Communiversity remains a design proposal for a living-learning village—one where leadership is practiced through relationships, shared responsibility, and close attention to the ecological systems that sustain the region.
