The story
A school where managing diabetes is part of learning, not a barrier to it.

The Sonia Nabeta Foundation created Project Elimu after its pilot program showed that paying school fees and medical costs alone could not give Ugandan children with Type 1 diabetes the consistent support they needed. The proposal brings a school for students ages six to sixteen together with a specialized diabetes center serving both pupils and the surrounding community. Classrooms, clinical care, monitoring, nutrition, and psychosocial support would operate as one environment, allowing children to learn without hiding their condition or relying on schools unprepared to manage it. The health center would also strengthen diagnosis, treatment, education, and professional knowledge beyond the campus.
Developed with Uganda’s Ministries of Education and Health, the project brief defines a clear program but the reviewed archive does not confirm a completed architectural design or construction. Project Elimu remains a proposal. Its deepest insight is that inclusive education requires more than admission: the building, staff, routines, and care systems must work together so each child can participate safely and plan for a meaningful future.
