A bamboo pavilion gives farmers a place to exchange knowledge.
In Bali, Hong Kong University, Bamboo U, Bamboo Pure, Astungkara Way, local stakeholders, and Journeyman International collaborated on a bamboo community learning pavilion for farmers. The structure is intended for meetings, coordination, training, and workshops—especially around bamboo management and the restoration economy—so the building itself demonstrates the material being discussed inside it. Planning paired the main pavilion with toilets, storage, a multipurpose room, electricity, and a fresh-water connection.
Site analysis also identified a steep landslide-prone edge and recommended shifting construction roughly thirty meters north to reduce risk, showing how environmental judgment shaped the plan before form. The implementation framework scheduled construction beginning in 2025, and the project record notes an August collaborative build; the reviewed archive does not conclusively document completion of every support space. The project’s strongest idea is direct and grounded: use an expressive local material to create practical shared infrastructure for the people managing Bali’s agricultural landscapes together.
