Seven hillside cabins extend a community center into locally rooted tourism.
Overlooking Lake Burera and Volcanoes National Park, the Sunzu Village EcoLodge was conceived as the economic phase of a broader community master plan. Seven small cabins step into the hillside, allowing visitors to experience the landscape while keeping the development intimate and connected to the existing village center. The lodge is intended to create work, support local enterprise, and generate income that can strengthen community programs rather than operate as an isolated resort. Careful siting, modest footprints, shade, natural ventilation, and a close relationship to paths and views would help the cabins sit lightly on steep terrain.
The reviewed Drive archive did not contain a project-specific final book or construction record for this phase, so detailed material choices and completion status cannot be confirmed. It remains a proposal within the Sunzu plan. Its architectural promise is reciprocity: visitors receive a distinctive place to stay, while the village gains a practical way to connect tourism revenue with education, infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and locally directed priorities.
